Information for speakers

e-TOLD is a monthly, interactive webinar series on global lung health. Each session features two 15-minutes lectures, one by a Tanzanian expert and one by a Finnish expert, offering diverse perspectives on current issues in clinical practice, research, and public lung health. The webinars encourage active participation, with plenty of room for questions and discussions.

e-TOLD is directed at medical doctors, students, researchers and other professionals working with tuberculosis and/or other lung diseases.

What happens in the session?

The chairman will welcome the attendees and introduce the topic and the speakers. After each of the lectures, there will be a short discussion guided by the chairman. Several experts may be invited to contribute to the verbal discussion, and other attendees have the possibility to ask questions via the Q&A, and those questions will be addressed by the chairman or speakers. These questions sometimes relate to real life clinical cases, and answers may have direct clinical impact.

What is expected of my lecture?

The lectures last 15 (max 20) minutes, and the chairman may remind you of the time when the limit is approaching. as a speaker, the design of your presentation is up to you, but from the feedback, we know that case-based presentations are highly appreciated. We hope that both speakers join the conversation after the presentation, which tends to lead to informative discussions with questions and imput from the audience.

Who are the attendees?

After each session, attendees are asked to answer a short evaluation form, in which they are also asked about their professional background. In e-TOLD series 1-10 (2024-2025), the sessions had on average 36 individuals participating (169 individuals in total), and the response rate to the survey was 27%. This is how they described their professional background:

Does e-TOLD pay lecture fees to the speakers?

Thus far, e-TOLD has been organized without any budget. We find it important that the series is freely available to allow for participation by professionals working in low-resource settings. Neither speakers, chairmen, nor other members of the working committee received any funding, and the (small) administrative costs are covered by institutes or organizing individuals. This policy may change if we receive substantional funding.

Will the lecture be recorded and/or shared?

We greatly respect the contribution of our speakers, and are committed to their individual wishes. Based on feedback, we know that availabillity of learning material (webinar recording or slides) is very much appreciated by attendees. However, there are issues with copyright and authorship, as well as privacy of patients when cases are presented or discussed. Therefore, we do ask the speakers whether we can share recordings, but understand and fully respect when consent is not given. If consent for sharing recordings and/or slides is received, we will make the material avaiable for participants via this website and/or the Howspace platform. These websites are NOT findable by google or other searching machines. The link to the Howspace-platform is only shared with registered participants, speakers and organizers. Thus, session recordings or slides will never be shared without the consent of the speakers.
